Free Public Services

Tualatin Valley Parks and Recreation Department

Commonwealth Lake Park is a beautiful, newly-resurfaced, accessible 9 tenths of a mile lake trail and park in the center of the Beaverton area.  Wheelchair access is best at the west end of the lake near the intersection of SW Foothill Dr. and  SW Dellwood Ave. The west end of the lake is where there is some playground equipment and a wheelchair accessible porta potty.  There is one spot about halfway around the lake, at the east end, where the trail is a bit steep going down to a bridge, which would be hard for wheelchairs but still OK for electric scooters.   The trail is wide enough for bikes to pass pedestrians in safety.  See pictures at

Lowami Hart Woods Natural Area has an upper loop with accessibility for disabled,  free parking and free access.

Humane Society Senior Discount on Pet Adoption

Find Love at Any Age — Every Tuesday OHS offers an adoption special for people age 60 and up. A select group of approximately 20 pets (cats and dogs) will be available for adoption to seniors at no charge every Tuesday.

OHS recognizes that a pet can not only make you feel young at heart, but pets may help keep you healthy. Researchers have documented that living with pets is associated with lower blood pressure and less anxiety.

OHS will select the 20 pets each week by looking at personality traits that will be a good fit for a mature household. If a perfect match cannot be found among the 20 free pets, all other pets at the shelter will be $50 off the listed adoption fee (only for individuals 60 years of age or older). This special cannot be combined with other offers.
